I graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in English from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with a minor in Classical Civilization. I was on the Dean's List for 8 of 8 semesters, finished with a GPA of 3.95 out of 4.0, and graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Experience
My teaching philosophy is that tutors should enable our students to continue improving their work after they have left the tutoring session. To do this I provide individualized techniques and resources that help my students help themselves. I am flexible and adaptable to many different learning styles and will give my students the personalized tools they need to excel! I worked for two years at the Writing Center at UIUC, where I discovered my love of teaching. I tutored undergraduate students (and occasionally graduate students) in one-on-one sessions, either focusing closely on a writing assignment or prompt, or working more generally on an area of writing they struggled with. I also worked at a second tutoring center for low-income and minority students at UIUC for one year. During college, I founded a literary journal and a literary magazine that are still thriving years later. In addition I have real-world experience with writing professionally, since I managed a hotel in Illinois and personally wrote all of the documentation and technical manuals that exist for that property.
