Hello, I'm Joseph! I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, with a concentration in Game Programing, from DePaul University. During my time in college, I quickly came to the realization that the professors were undoubtedly my greatest asset and would be able to lead me to a successful career. I grew fond of the professors who were engaging, patient, and passionate due to their genuine interest in the various subjects they taught. I always felt comfortable asking questions and venturing beyond the scope of projects because the professors were always there to help. Because of the knowledge I gained throughout my college career, I have pushed myself to also share what I've learned with others, thus leading me to become a tutor.
Experience
I have spent many years programming in the various C languages, and have worked professionally using them in combination with other languages such as Java and Python. I understand what students will be required to know, and how to push them further ahead, whether it be in class, or a job. I have applied my skills to various game engine developments, networking, and most recently to the virtual and augmented reality world. Most importantly, my understanding of the languages helps me to make learning them fun and engaging!

I try to embody the same traits my professors had when I tutor my students, which has led me to success with a wide variety of students. I teach subjects that I have a deep knowledge of, and have a genuine interest in. Because of these two characteristics in the subjects that I teach, I have become an engaging tutor which leads to a beneficial experience for my students. I am a very patient tutor and can breakdown subjects for students with varying experience levels. Often times I will create a game plan suited for individuals, but can also be very flexible. I give plenty of examples when working on new material, and give students plenty of time to figure out problems on their own. At the same time, I'm always available to answer questions and can break down problems to helps students to "think like a programmer." I am also a very visual tutor so I will often draw out diagrams, write down notes, and use other communicative means to develop students in their programming needs.
